Russian pyramid

Russian billiards (also Russian pyramid or just called pyramid ) is a billiards variant, which however is known in Russia and the other CIS countries more popular than any other to pool, outside little.

History

The history of Russian billiards goes back to Peter the Great. He learned in the 18th century in the Netherlands know the billiards game and brought it to Russia. There, the variant of the pyramid Billards developed. While it was banned in the period of Communist rule, it was after the fall of the Iron Curtain again popular in Russia and the other CIS countries.

Regulate

The game is played on a table the size of a snooker table ( 12 feet ) with a total of 16 balls, which are even larger with 68 mm diameter as carom balls. The pockets of the table are cut so that with 73-74 mm ( corner pockets ) and 82-83 mm ( center pockets ) just a few millimeters of space to punch the balls. We therefore need more precision than in other billiard variants for punching balls.

The game is usually completed when one player reaches 8 points (that is, has sunk 8 balls). It is not necessary to tell which ball you want to punch.

At the beginning of the game the 15 white and usually numbered object balls are arranged in pyramid shape (similar to the initial situation in the 8- ball). The usually red or yellow cue ball is positioned in the upper quarter.

For a legal impact must in any case a collision with at least one of the object balls take place, otherwise a shot is a foul and is penalized with a minus point. The other player may also decide whether he wants to continue playing or his opponent wants to continue playing. As a challenge also applies among other touching balls, piercing, if one or more balls leave the table and not having at least one foot touching the ground upon impact.

After the initial shock, there is no separation between cue ball and object balls; which means that each ball can be used as a plaything as well as the object ball. It is also allowed to play ball - after a collision with an object ball - to punch. In this case, one of the object balls is removed from the table. Locht you have several balls in a legal impact, then there is also the corresponding number of points.
