The Rustavi International Motor Park is a motorsport race track on the outskirts of the Georgian city of Rustavi. It lies about 20 km from the capital Tbilisi and is considered the first professional race track in the Caucasus region.

History

The track " Rustavi " is the last to be built in the Soviet Union racetrack. Opened in 1978, it had a length of 4040 meters and a width of 12-18 meters. On a racetrack complex included a go-kart track, an autocross and a bike path and a non- covered grandstand for 800 spectators; a workshop and a hotel located in close proximity. The first races were held in 1979. Between 1979 and 1989 there a total of 11 USSR championship races were held. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the route for some time forgotten, and the aged and damaged track surface got was impassable.

In 2009, the line was purchased under a government auction by private companies Stromos 2011-2012 and rebuilt in accordance with FIA rules. In April 2011, FIA President Jean Todt visited the site to inspect the reconstruction.

On 29 April 2012, the official opening took place, attended by the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili took part of it personally sat behind the wheel of a Formula 3 car.

Reconstruction

The race has been entirely reconstructed, but with many curve changes. There was a significant landscape remodeling, approximately 250,000 m3 of soil was moved during the renovation work. Were built two stands - a covered for 2,000 spectators and an open 3000 with standing room. The pit lane contains 28 according to FIA standards built boxes. On the second floor above the pits is an additional auditorium and offices, a conference room and a restaurant for about 200 guests. Above this is a racing line storm.

The start-finish straight was extended to a 1 /2 mile and can be used as a dragster race track.

Security

After the reconstruction of the track meets all the safety requirements of the FIA ( racetracks ) category 2, the race almost all championships permitted, including GP2.

Events and Festivals

In 2012, found on the track a number of motorsport events, including races in the open Georgian Formula Alfa Championship and the Legends Cars, drag racing, drift racing and many others. Ticket prices are on average about 3 euros, tickets can be purchased locally. Television coverage is made by the Public Broadcasting of Georgia. Since July 14, 2012 Formula Alfa and Legends will be issued at a local betting provider for the classes.

Team

The track serves as the basis for numerous newly formed racing teams such as Gulf Racing, Liberty Bank Racing, MIA Force, Adjara, VTB Bank and GPB.
