The Le Suroît is a research vessel of the French research institute Ifremer. Bereedert it is of Genavir.

History

The ship was built in the mid -1970s, some under the hull number 1243 on the French shipyard Ateliers et Chantiers de La in Dieppe and completed in early 1975.

The ship was involved in the 1985 expedition to search for the wreck of the Titanic. In 1999 it was rebuilt and modernized.

Specifications

The ship is powered by two twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines with an output of around 600 kW each. The motors act on a propeller. The ship reaches a speed of 14 knots. It has an active rudder with 110 kW of power and a bow thruster of 150 kW.

For the power supply are two generators with an output of 500 kW (apparent power: 625 kVA), which are driven by the main engine, available. In addition, a diesel generator with an output of 144 kW (apparent power: 180 kVA) was installed.

The hull of the ship is eisverstärkt.

Equipment

The ship is equipped with various facilities required for the research, including echo sounders, Sonar, thermosalinograph and Bathythermograph. For several research facilities are available, including a wet and a dry lab. Spaces are located on board for four 20 -foot containers.

The ship has several cranes, including a crane on the port side and a crane on the starboard side on the aft deck. At the stern of the ship is a stern gallows. Furthermore, there are various winches on deck.

On board, in addition to the crew is space for 14 scientists and other personnel needed for research trips.
