Rydułtowy

Rydułtowy ( German Rydultau ) is a city in the powiat Wodzisławski, Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

Geography

Rydułtowy extends over 15 km ², of which 62 % is agricultural land and 2% is covered by forest.

The 21,851 inhabitants, is located 49 km south-west of Katowice. Geographically Rydułtowy located in the southwestern part of Silesian Plateau ( Wyżyna Śląska ).

History

The first written mention of Rydultau dates from the year 1228. Rudolphi under the name of Villa the village is owned and Tithe Directory of the Diocese of Breslau ( Liber fundationis Episcopatus Vratislaviensis ). Crucial for the further development was the discovery of coal deposits end of the 17th century. In 1792, the first coal mine was opened, over the next few decades followed by more. Instead of the present town existed at that time the villages of Upper and larger low - Rydultau that were part of Prussia since 1742 and since 1816 assigned to the district of Rybnik.

After the plebiscite in Upper Silesia 1921 1922 Upper and Lower - Rydultau fell as Rydułtowy Górne or Rydułtowy Dolne to Poland. 1926 Places Rydułtowy Dolne Rydułtowy Górne Orłowiec ( Orlowietz ) Radoszowy Dolne (low Radoschau ) Radoszowy Górne (upper Radoschau ) and Kolonii Buńczowiec ( Bunczowietz ) were merged into one municipality Rydułtowy. 1952 Rydułtowy received its town charter, which it lost again in 1976, when it was annexed to the city Wodzisław Slaski, but could recover in 1992 as an independent municipality.

Economy and Transport

The main industry in Rydułtowy is the coal industry with the colliery Rydułtowy - Anna.

By Rydułtowy the voivodship road runs 935 ( Droga wojewódzka 935 ).

Education

The city has five kindergartens ( przedszkole ) three elementary schools ( szkoła podstawowa ), two middle schools ( gimnazjum ) and two academic centers ( Zespół Szkół Ponadgimnazjalnych ). The city has a library.

Attractions

  • The neo-Gothic parish church of St. George was built in 1896 by architect Ludwig Schneider. Near the church there is a penitential cross of 1628, which was carved in the shape of a Cross of Lorraine, and thus is the only one of its kind in Poland.
  • The slag heap of Rydułtowy is a visible sign of the local coal industry. Over time, the useless, dove material which was obtained during coal mining were 120-130 feet high piled so that a 407 m npm high mountain dominates the landscape today.
