Saadi Shirazi

Saadi (Persian سعدی, DMG Sa ʿ dī; * around 1190 in Shiraz, † 1283 or 1291 ibid ), actually Musharraf ad-Din Abdullah, was a prominent Persian poet and mystic. He is the most popular of poet of his country and received in his home town (as well as some later Hafiz ) in a garden ( called Saadiye ) a much-visited mausoleum.

Life and work

According to the literature and Islamic studies at the University of Baghdad Saadi turned to mysticism. In addition to doctrinal writings, he is the author of Bustan ( " fruit or fruit garden ," meaning a kitchen garden, 1257 ) and the Golestan ( "Rose Garden ", meaning an ornamental garden, 1258 ), as well as a collection of verses interspersed prose narratives (usually called " Divan ").

The former works include short stories and poems about his many travels, which took him for almost 30 years in the Hijaz and Yemen, Syria and Palestine, but also in the Sultanate of Rum Seljuks (Anatolia), Egypt and India.
