Sabine Völker

Sabine Völker ( born May 11, 1973 in Erfurt) is a former German speed skater.

Peoples began in 1979 with the speed skating and moved to the children's and youth sports school in Erfurt in 1986. After graduation in 1992 she began studying business administration at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, where she graduated with a diploma in 1999.

After three Vice World Championship titles ( 1997, over 500 meters, 1998 on the Sprint -around and 2001 over 1000 meters) she ran in the 2001/ 02 season world record in the 1000 meter and won the overall World Cup via this route. In the 2002 Olympics, she won three Olympic medals: Silver 1000 and 1500 meters and bronze over 500 meters. In 2005, she was together with Daniela Anschütz and Anni Friesinger World Champion in the Team Pursuit.

On 16 February 2006 Daniela Anschütz - Thoms, Anni Friesinger, Claudia Pechstein, Lucille Opitz and Sabine won peoples in the team pursuit of the XX. 2006 Winter Olympics, the only speed skating gold for Germany in Turin. Although peoples was not used in the final against Canada, but was in the heats at much the victory of the German team.

On 2 June 2006, she announced her career end.
