Săcel, Maramureș

Sacel (Hungarian Izaszacsal ) is a town in Maramureş County in northern Romania.

Location

Sacel is just 60 km southeast of Sighetu Marmaţiei and 12 km west of Moiseja on the National Road (drum National) DN 17C at the southeastern end of the Iza Valley. In the center of the circle road branches (drum Judetean ) DJ 186 from after Vadu Izei and Sighetu Marmaţiei. About 5 km south of this intersection, just before the pass SETREF, the boundary runs to the circle Bistrita-Nasaud.

History

SACEL was first mentioned in 1365.

Population

At the last census in 2002 lived in Sacel 3779 inhabitants; 3765 of these were Romanians, Hungarians 6 and 8 Gypsies. In recent decades, the population declined slightly; 1956 most of the inhabitants were registered with 4379.

Traffic

The National Highway 17C runs past the village to the east. The county road 186 branches off to Sighetu Marmaţiei, which runs through the Iza Valley. To the east of the town is the station on the railway line Salva- Viseu de Jos.
