The Sacramento International Airport ( engl. Sacramento International Airport ) is the largest airport of Sacramento, the capital of the U.S. state of California.

History

The Sacramento airport was opened on 21 October 1967 as Sacramento Metropolitan Airport to the existing Sacramento Municipal Airport to substitute for commercial air transport. In the first year, despite skeptical voices more than one million passengers were transported. 1987 was taken east of the existing runway in a second operation to meet the growing numbers of passengers

1996 has started with the construction of a new terminal building, at the same time the airport in Sacramento International Airport has been renamed. The first international scheduled flight took place in 2002, however, only when Mexicana began to regularly connect Sacramento with the Guadalajara airport.

Operation

From the Sacramento airport destinations in the U.S. and Mexico are served regularly. Largest airline in terms of passenger numbers is Southwest Airlines.
