The Saginaw River is a 35 km (22 miles ) long river in Zentralmichigan, USA. It is formed by the confluence of the Tittabawassee River and Shiawassee River southeast of Saginaw. On his way he crosses several counties and finally ends in Essexville, north of Bay City in Lake Huron. Due to the discharge of wastewater by Dow Chemical in the Tittabawassee River and Saginaw River this increased contaminated with dioxins. Whether a health threat to the population goes, is still unclear and is currently (2005) studied. But the fact is that the river is not frozen in the past decades in the winter due to the high chemical exposure. This has now changed for the better. Just south of Bay City crosses Interstate Highway ( National Highway ) I- 75 on the Zilwaukee Bridge [W 1] the Saginaw River.
Fishing
In the Saginaw River can be fished from the consumption of fish but are discouraged because they may have increased chemical values .
Shipping
In Bay City and Essexville the Saginaw River is spanned by several lift bridges since large freighters go upriver and about transporting gravel and other goods. But the river has been dredged a shipping channel separately.
