Saimir Pirgu

Saimir Pirgu (* 1981 in Elbasan ) is an Albanian opera singer in the vocal range Tenor.

Life and artistic work

Saimir Pirgu first studied violin in his home town of Elbasan in central Albania. There was a vocal studies at the Academy of Arts of Tirana, which he at the Conservatory Claudio Monteverdi continued in 2000 in Bolzano at Vito Maria Brunetti, who is still his singing teacher. Two years later he made his debut at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, as Lord Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor. At the Municipal Theatre of Bolzano Pirgu embodied the Paolino in Il matrimonio segreto; in Ferrara he sang Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, conducted by Claudio Abbado. With the latter role he made ​​his debut at the Salzburg Festival. At the Vienna State Opera he sang in 2004, among other things Nemorino (L' elisir d' amore ), Fenton ( Falstaff ) and Edmondo (Manon Lescaut ). In 2008 he sang the role of Rodolfo in La Bohème in a skyscraper, a production of the Swiss television in the residential district, in cooperation with the Stadttheater Bern. In November 2009 he made his debut as Alfredo in La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and in May 2010 in the same batch at the Royal Opera House in London. In 2011 he was Tamino in a production of The Magic Flute at La Scala.

Pirgu made ​​guest appearances at the music stages in Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, Rome, Zurich, Madrid, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Paris, Washington and Amsterdam. The artist, who is still active as a song, oratorio and concert singer in addition to his stage presence, worked previously with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Franz Welser Möst, James Colon, Lorin Maazel, Daniele Gatti, Gustav Kuhn, Nicholas Harnoncourt and Antonio Pappano together.
