Saint Domnius

Split Split (* in the 3rd century in Syria, today Turkey, † in 304 in Dalmatia, today Croatia) was a bishop and martyr. He is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

St. Duje in Split (lat. Split, Croat Sveti Duje. ) Was belonging to the 3rd century at Antioch, at that epoch to Syria, now located in Turkey, was born. In the 3rd century, he was Bishop of the Diocese of Salona, today the Archdiocese of Split - Makarska. He was with seven other Christians passed at the last persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire under Emperor Diocletian in the year 304 at Salona and the executioner beheaded. The Christians of the city of Salona buried his body secretly. Over his grave a basilica was built. Today his relics are in the Cathedral dedicated to him Sv. Duje in Split, the actual mausoleum of the Roman emperor Diocletian. He is also the patron saint of the Croatian coastal town of Split.

His feast day is celebrated on May 7.
