Saint Prisca

Prisca of Rome (also: Priscilla ) ( † in the 1st century in Rome) was a Christian virgin, martyr and saint.

According to tradition, Prisca was converted at the age of 13 years from the Apostle Peter to Christianity and baptized. When Emperor Claudius then demanded Prisca should the Apollo offer the prescribed incense, she refused. She was tortured and finally beheaded at the third milestone of the Via Ostiensis before the city of Rome.

The Roman bishop Eutychianus left their bones in the 3rd century holy in the church dedicated to her Santa Prisca on the Aventine Hill on lead, which was rebuilt in the 12th century by Paschal II. In the crypt there is the vessel with which Peter is said to have baptized, kept as a relic. The Passio of Prisca comes earlier than the 8th century. It is possible that there was a mixing of Prisca of Rome with Priscilla, wife of Aquila, which is mentioned in Romans and 1 Corinthians, or with another martyr of the 3rd century.
