Sally Benson

Sally Benson ( born September 3, 1897 in St. Louis, Missouri, † July 19, 1972 in Woodland Hills, California ) was an American screenwriter and author of short stories.

Life

Benson spent the first years of her childhood in St. Louis, until she moved at the age of ten years with her family to New York City. At the age of 19, she entered into a marriage with Reynolds Benson, the two had a child together. Some years later, their separation. She first worked as a journalist and then written articles, among others for The New Yorker. For some of her short stories she wrote under the pseudonym Esther Evarts.

1942 some of their stories under the title Meet me in St. Louis was collected in a book published. Based on this, the film Meet Me in St. Louis was published in 1944. At that Benson was also involved, but the screenplay was written by others.

Her 1941 book published Junior Miss was filmed. Directed by George Seaton was established in 1945 in an eponymous feature film.

Benson turned himself from 1943 to screenwriting to and was active in this area until the mid- 1960s.

In 1947 she was nominated and Talbot Jennings Adapted Screenplay Oscar for the screenplay for Anna and the King of Siam in the category best. In 1950 she received for her work on ... and the heavens laughs to along with Oscar Millard was nominated for a WGA Award from the Writers Guild of America.
