Salsali Private Museum

The Salsali Private Museum ( SPM) in Dubai, UAE, is the first private museum of contemporary Asian and international art in the United Arab Emirates. It was opened on 13 November 2011 by the international art collector and promoter Ramin Salsali.

The SPM is located in the Warehouse 14 of the industrial area of Al Quoz and is part of the Alserkal Avenue, a warehouse complex, in which galleries, studios and ateliers.

Museum concept

The various exhibitions in Salsali private museum usually show the works of Salsalis private art collection, but also works by guest collections.

The SPM also acts as a kind of forum for art collectors who want to gain a foothold in Dubai. Furthermore, it serves as an independent center for collectors and should give them an insight into the contemporary oriental and international art.

Exhibited artists

Young artists will be funded by the SPM and familiarized with the Arab art scene. In Ramin Salsalis collection, which comprises more than 500 works of art, there are works by Middle East artists such as Sara Rahbar, Amir -Hossein Zanjani, Pantea Rahmani, Ala Dehghan, Hossein Rezvani, Anahita Razmi, Farzan Sadjadi, Ave Fereydoun, Ramin Haerizadeh, Ayman Baalbaki Reza Derakshani, Rokni Haerizadeh, Farideh Lashai, Mona Hatoum, Shirin Neshat, Youssef Nabil, Nazif Topcuoglu, Manal Al Dowayan, Halim Al Karim, Kambiz Sabri, Elham Pouriamehr, Lateefa bint Maktoum. The international art scene is represented by works by Arman, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jonathan Meese, Daniel Spoerri, André Butzer, Erwin Olaf, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Meret Oppenheim, Daniel Richter or Katherine Bernhardt.

Founder

Salsali was born in 1964 in Tehran and studied in Germany and England, economics, strategic management and marketing with a focus on industrial design. In 1993 he received his degree at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University in Munich.

Parallel to his studies, he was also active in the extractive industry. He founded a consulting company for the installation of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies in oil companies. Later he engaged in the real estate business and campaigned for the preservation of historic buildings.

Ramin Salsali began his art collection when he was 21 years old. Since 2000, he tried to find a way to share his art with the public. In April 2011, he decided to open a private museum in Dubai. The SPM is the first private museum of contemporary art in the Arab art world, in which more than 500 works from Salsalis collection are presented. These are distributed to expressions such as painting, photography, film, art and sculptures.

Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice - President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai became aware of Salsali and honored him in 2010, 2011 and 2012, for his help and his commitment to the art scene of Dubai as a "Patron of the Arts " ..

Forum for Collectors

Salsali supports the theory that an art collection itself is art and therefore a collector is also an artist. His museum is not only a museum but also a center in which international collectors meet to exchange ideas. In SPM collectors, gallery owners and artists are to be networked together.
