The Samtgemeinde salt Hausen was established by the local government reform in 1972. The integrated municipality has a surface area of 14,815 ha, located about 40 km south of Hamburg metropolitan region in the district of Harburg, in the northeastern Lower Saxony. The integrated municipality consists of eight member municipalities with a total of thirteen villages. It is a predominantly rural local authority, dominated by agriculture, commercial, industrial and service companies.

Economy and infrastructure

Education

Primary schools are located in Eyendorf, Garstedt and salt in Hausen. A primary and junior high school, and since a few years now four spacious gymnasium are in Salzhausen.

Kindergartens

There are kindergartens in Toppenstedt, Eyendorf, salt Hausen, Vierhöfen, Garstedt and Wulfsen. In the kindergartens Toppenstedt and Eyendorf there is integration groups. A total of around 400 morning courses are taken.

Business

The largest employer in the region is the hospital Salzhausen. It is the only cooperative guided hospital in Germany and operates a 75 - bed hospital. The hospital has three departments, one surgical, one inside and one Department of Urology. Various other " pillars " as one ambulatory care service, day care stations and senior housing contribute to the inventory of the house. A large acceptance and willingness to donate in the population also contributes to the preservation of the hospital.
