Samantha Power

Samantha Power ( born September 21, 1970 in Dublin) is an Irish- American journalist, author and scientist. Since August 2nd, 2013, it is the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Career

Power previously served as the Anna Lindh Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University. In 2003 she won the Pulitzer Prize for her book A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide. She also received the Anisfield - Wolf Book Award for this book.

On June 5, 2013 Power was nominated by U.S. President Barack Obama as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. After her confirmation by the U.S. Senate, she joined on August 2, 2013, to succeed Susan E. Rice.
