Samfya

Samfya is a town with 21,000 inhabitants ( 2006 estimate ) on the southwestern end of the Bangweulusee in the province of Luapula in Zambia. It is located 1,154 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administrative district of the same name with 163 609 inhabitants ( 2000 census ).

Economy

Samfya is the largest town on Bangweulusee and overall the central market of Bangweulusümpfe. Especially fish from the lake and the marshes is traded here. 57,000 tons per year are caught there. Samfya built in the mid 20th century, formed as a fishing village and has developed with the fish market, which was built here because the place is close to the Copperbelt, the main outlet for fish.

Infrastructure

Samfya is located on the paved Chinese Road and is therefore connected to the national road network. The other way in the district are to be passed only with all-wheel drive. A mail boat powered by here Mbabala, Cishi and Chilubi, the three main islands in the Bangweulusee. Lake and marshes are supplied for the rest exclusively with the Banana Boat, the dugout. There is a post office, a clinic ( renovated in May 2006, equipped with solar-powered radio and light), a gas station and a dirt airstrip.

Tourism

In October there is about two or three days the Kwanga hard Njumbo the place that offers traditional rites and dances, but also food and drink.
