Samuel Alfred Craig

Samuel Alfred Craig ( born November 19, 1839 in Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, † March 17, 1920 ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Samuel Craig attended the public schools of his home and then the Jefferson College in Canonsburg. He served an apprenticeship in the printing trade and taught intermittently as a teacher. During the Civil War he served in the army of the Union, where he rose to become captain. He also belonged to the Veteran Reserve Corps. After studying law and his 1876 was admitted to the bar he began in Brookville to work in this profession. In 1878 he became district attorney in the local Jefferson County.

Politically, Craig joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1888 he was in the 21st electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Welty McCullogh on March 4, 1889. Since he was not nominated by his party for re-election in 1890, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1891.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Samuel Craig again practiced as an attorney in Brookville, where he died on 17 March 1920.
