Samuel Jones (NY comptroller)

Samuel Jones ( born July 26, 1734 Oyster Bay, Queens (now Nassau County), New York, † November 21, 1819 ) was an American lawyer and politician. He was the son of William Jones (1708-1779) and Phoebe (Jackson ) Jones ( 1715-1800 ).

Samuel Jones took 1786-1790 Queens in the New York State Assembly. During this time he was in 1788 elected to the Continental Congress, but did not attend the session. Then he held from 1791 to 1799 a Senate seat from New York. On February 17, 1797 Office of the New York State Comptrollers by the New York State Legislature was created. On March 15, Jones was appointed by the Council of Appointments for the first Comptroller. He held this post until 1800.
