San Andrés, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

San Andrés is a place in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the Canary island of Tenerife. It lies in the northeast of the island, about 10 km from the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife above the coast in the precursors of the Anaga Mountains. San Andres has about 4700 inhabitants.
History
At times the natives of the place had several names: Abicor, Abicoré and Ibaute. On 16 January 1850, the previously independent city was incorporated into Santa Cruz. By 1940, San Andrés could only be reached on a carved into the rock trail. Here were found during excavations also one of the famous mummies of the Guanches.
Castle and church
Originally existed here once the fortress Castillo de San Andrés ( Castle of San Andrés ), of which the built in 1706, these days though several storms (1740 and 1896 ) testifies ruined fortress tower. Part of the castle is still intact.
The Iglesia de San Andrés ( San Andrés Church ) is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the Canary Islands with a remarkable colonial architecture. It was built in 1505-1510.
Economy
The residents of San Andrés are still living from fishing. However, tourism has also created many jobs here at the beach, the village itself has remained original. In the village there are no hotels and guesthouses, only a few apartments are available for rent. Spanish courts in 1984 stopped the construction of larger tourist facilities.
1973 shook the administration of the island this beach located there Teresitas with 4 million sacks of sand on the Sahara, created an infrastructure with showers, parking and food stalls. Many residents of the nearby metropolis come at leisure at these flagship beach, where an offshore, harbor similar barrier attenuates the surf.
