San Clemente Island

San Clemente Iceland, shortly SCI is the southernmost island of the California Channel Islands. The 39 km long and 147.13 km ² large, uninhabited island reaches a height of 599 meters above sea level, is administratively for Los Angeles County in California. The City of San Clemente in Orange County is named after the island.

History

Archaeologists found on the island 10,000 years old traces of people. The island was discovered on November 23, 1602 Sebastian Vizcaino. He named the island San Clemente, since the anniversary of Clement of Rome was on the day. In the 19th and 20th centuries inhabited the island of farmers, fishermen and smugglers.
