Santa Cruz Island

Santa Cruz Iceland is an island off the west coast of California, which belongs to the archipelago of the California Channel Islands.

It is equipped with 245.42 square kilometers, the largest privately owned island in the United States, the largest island of the Channel Islands and. Santa Cruz Iceland is located in Santa Barbara County and is part of the Channel Islands National Park. The island achieved in Devils Peak has a height of 747 meters above sea level and has, according to Census 2000, two permanent residents.

History

Archaeological excavations indicate that the island was inhabited for at least 9,000 years. Chumash Indians built a highly complex society on the island. Although the island was already discovered by Europeans, it was up to the year 1769, when an expedition led by Don Gaspar de Portola la Santa Cruz Iceland reached, no contact with Europeans.
