History

On the history of the place, little information is available: it ranges back to the Middle Ages; around the year 1000 it appears as part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Sepúlveda. Attractions

  • The Romanesque Iglesia San Pedro received in 1200 from an attached precisely hewn stone south porch ( portico ), the five arches are arranged symmetrically on the south side; Another portal arch is located on the east side. In the same context, a tower in the southwest corner has been built, but (maybe even later ) was remodeled or rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The decor of the lobby portals consists of orbiting and not interrupted by capitals zigzag patterns as they are also found in the churches of Sotosalbos, Perorrubio and on the west side of the church of El Arenal. The actual Archivolts portal to the church is located in the flight of the porch portal; it emerges from the surrounding, but plastered masonry and shows a rich decoration of rosettes, leaf motifs, spirals, cubes Friesen and tendrils. Especially the rosettes and spiral pattern on the front side of the inner arc are rarely seen in its kind in the European Romanesque; perhaps a disastrous defensive ( apotropaic ) Function they were awarded. The many - unfortunately already heavily damaged - depictions of birds and people on the capitals and consoles deserve attention.
