Sanahin Monastery

Sanahin Monastery is a monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church near the town of the same in the Lori province in northern Armenia, which was founded in 966. Like the nearly four kilometers east within sight Monastery Haghpat it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. On the site there are numerous Chatschkare and several tombs of bishops. In the center of the complex is the largest structure, the Church of the Redeemer. Oldest building is the north then Mother of God Church from the second quarter of the 10th century. 1063 a library was built on the site. Until the 13th century, the complex was further expanded.
