Geographical Location
Sandy Springs is located in Fulton County in the U.S. state of Georgia. The city is a northern suburb of Atlanta and part of the Atlanta- Sandy Springs - Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area, the most populous metropolitan area in Georgia. In the West, Sandy Springs is adjacent to the Cobb County, in the north to the city of Roswell and on the east by the city of Dunwoody in DeKalb County.
Climate
Sandy Springs has an eastern climate with warmgemäßigtem summer and cool winter. Rain falls throughout the year, and the maximum values in the months of January to March are achieved.
History
Establishment and name origin
In 1842, the Austin - Johnson House was built on what is now Johnson Ferry Road. It is the oldest house in Sandy Springs. After the signing of the Federal Aid Highway Act began the construction of the Interstate Highway System in 1956, sat in the city a boom in residential construction. Since the 1960s and 1970s, the highways Georgia State Route 400 and Interstate 285 Sandy Springs connect with Atlanta.
In the 1970s, began a debate on the Local Government ( incorporation ) after Atlanta tried over a state law Sandy Springs einzugemeinden. In a referendum on local self-government spoke out on 21 June 2005, 94 percent of the eligible population for self-government of the city. On 1 December 2005 the independence of the city formally entered into force.
The name of the town goes back to sand sources in their area. The sources are a protected cultural and historical site today.
Population Development
In 2010, 93 853 people lived in Sandy Springs. The population recorded for several decades growth. In the census of 2000 in the area of the city lived only 85 781 people. All figures prior to 2005 are for the period before the founding of the city, but refer to the current urban area.

Sandy Springs is home to several large companies such as United Parcel Service, Newell Rubbermaid, and First Data. The most important business districts of the city are located along the Roswell Road and Perimeter Center. Sandy Springs latter shares with the neighboring city of Dunwoody. In the Perimeter Center there are numerous high-rise buildings, including the twin towers of the Concourse at Landmark Center, which determine the skyline of the city. The twin towers are due to their similarity with chess pieces called popularly as The King and Queen Towers.
