Sangar, Sakha Republic

Sangar (Russian Сангар; Yakut Сангаар ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 4377 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is located about 240 km as the crow north-northwest of the capital of Yakutsk in the Republic Mitteljakutischen lowlands. It is located on the right bank of the Lena, about 10 km upstream of the confluence of the creek Tschotschuma. Southeast of the village rises above the otherwise mostly flat in this area Lenatal in the immediate vicinity of rivers on the 430 m high mountain Baatal - Chajata.

Sangar is the administrative center of Ulus Kobjaiski. The settlement is the seat of the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Sangar, (southeast good 3 km, both on the Lena bank) which also includes the villages Awiaport (4 km north-west ) and Smoroditschny belong.

History

The settlement was founded in 1928 in connection with the incipient development of a coal deposit. Since 1940, Sangar has the status of an urban-type settlement. In 1959, the administrative seat of the Ulus of the village Kobjai was moved to Sangar.

Due to the setting of coal mining in the 1990s left more than half of the inhabitants of the place.

Traffic

Sangar is not connected to the fixed line network; Connection exists only to the places of the municipality. In the ice-free period is boat service on the Lena; in the winter ice road is created on the river. The airfield of the town near the village Awiaport ( ICAO code UEMS ) is currently not served regularly.
