St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde (also Sankt Georgen am Ybbsfelde ) is a market town with 2787 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria.

St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde located in the Most district in Lower Austria. 13.8 percent of the area of the municipality is forested.

The market town of St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde consists of the four Katastralgemeinden:

  • Hermann village (3.07 km ²)
  • Krahof ( 8.07 km ²)
  • Leutzmannsdorf (5.10 km ²)
  • St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde ( 6.64 km ²)

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. The place was first mentioned in records in 1230 Babenberg land register. The St. George's Church was probably built as early as the first half of the 11th century as part of the defense system " Averhilteburchstal ". In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place informed the eventful history of Austria. 1529 and 1532 there were Turkish invasions. Under the influence of the nearby dominions and Seisenegg Freidegg was also St. Georgen temporarily Protestant. During the Peasants' War of 1597 gathered in St. Georgen the insurgents. 1679 the plague raged in St. Georgen. In 1683 the town was sacked by the Turks in 1741 and 1809 by the Bavarians and French. From 1850 resulting political community of St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde be split Krahof from 1931 due to a dispute over the distribution of severe weather compensation. The council has 21 seats, mayor of the municipality is Liselotte Kashofer, office manager Alfred Traindt.

In the municipal elections of 2005, the ÖVP reached 14, the SPÖ and the FPÖ 6 1 mandate. In the municipal elections of 2010, the Social Democrats lost one seat to the FPÖ.

Sports

The local sports club Union St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde has sections for football, flying, tennis, table tennis, gymnastics and hiking. Figurehead is the football section was founded in 1979, 1996 and 1997 for 8 years the area belonged League West after the championships the years and now plays in the first class West of the Lower Austrian Football Association. In recent years, the sports complex has been continuously expanded. Already in August 1992, a covered grandstand was inaugurated. The club colors are black and white. After descending from the area league in 2005, a new team of coach Josef Raab has been compiled, which could reach the good 4th place right away. After the fall 2006 season the team rank 2 is in the table. After yet another relegation in 2010, the club has been playing the 2010/11 season in 2nd class Yspertal. The immediate re-emergence has been issued as a target. In the season 2011/2012 the SCU managed under coach Florin Calin promotion to the first class West.

2005 was built by the community and the Village Renewal Association leisure center with a fun court and beach volleyball court. After completion of the club FunSport took over the care and organized and hosted various sporting events, trainings and regular game days. The course is open to all St. George agents and FunSport members for sporting activities available.

Economy and infrastructure
