Sansang of Goguryeo

Sansang († 227), was the tenth ruler of the state of Goguryeo, the northern of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. He was the third son of King Sindae and ruled from 197 until his death in 227

Life

Sansang was in good agreement with Gogukcheons wife U. After his brother's death, Queen U Sansang left the throne and married him. In the same year Sansang had to knock down a rebellion of his elder brother Balgi, which was supported by the Chinese Han Dynasty. Sansang sent his younger brother Gyesu with an army against Balgi, who was defeated and committed suicide. Presumably, in the year 209 (the date is disputed) Sansang moved the capital to Jian. In the year 217 he took on many families of the Liaodong Peninsula.

Sansangs successor Dongcheon was the son of a concubine. He was appointed Crown Prince and 213 succeeded his father after his death in 227 the throne.
