Santovka

Santovka ( until 1948 slovak " Santov "; Hungarian Szántó ) is a municipality in the Levice Okres within the Nitriansky kraj in Slovakia, with about 800 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Ipeľská pahorkatina ( Eipel Hill Country ), which in turn belongs to the Danube hill country and thus to the Slovak Danube lowland. It is by the river bur, a right tributary of Ipeľ (German Eipel ). Santovka is located on the national road 564 and is 16 kilometers southeast of Levice as well as 19 kilometers northwest of Šahy away.

Administratively divided the community in community Parts Santovka and 1964 eingemeindeten Malinovec ( until 1948 " Maďarovce ", Hungarian Hévmagyarád ).

History

Today's municipal area was already inhabited in the Palaeolithic period. After a settlement from the Bronze Age, the Maďarovce culture is named. The town itself was first mentioned in 1157 as Zanthow writing and was an agricultural site.

Santovka is however most known for its coal thermal springs. Although writing known since the 16th century, until 1742 here a spa was built. Thanks healing effects of the acid water, the local population of different Pestwellen was spared. The water was also known in Europe, which is confirmed by several awards from exhibitions in Vienna (1873, 1907), Berlin ( 1908), Budapest ( 1907), Madrid ( 1907), Trieste (1882 ) and others.

Today, the village is also known for its mineral water Santovka and in place, there is a thermal spa.
