São Sebastião (Lisbon Metro)

São Sebatião is an underground station of the Linha Azul and Linha Vermelha of the Lisbon Metro, the underground network of the Portuguese capital. The station is located at Avenida António Augusta de Aviar near the Largo de São Sebastião da Pedreira in the homonymous municipality Avenidas Novas. The neighboring stations of the station are Praça de Espanha and Parque or Saldanha. History

Together with ten other stations opened the Lisbon City Council, the Lisbon metro network on December 29, 1959 between the stations Restauradores, Sete Rios Entre Campos. The train station, like all Lisbon metro stations on two side platforms, got the usual architectural design as all other metro stations. Francisco Keil do Amaral as an architect, designed the station itself, the artist Maria Keil designed these with a yellow azulejos pattern to represent signs with connected arcs on each tile dynamic wind turbines. Used for the platform walls wedge small piece strap with shades of ocher, green and white.

Due to the growing passenger flows from 1966, the operating company all platforms, the length of which varied depending on the importance and opening date between 40 and 70 meters, extendable to 105 meters, so there can hold six-car trains ruled from 1972. The platforms of the railway station São Sebastião were extended in this context in 1975 by 65 meters to the south. 1977 received an additional output in the south, to the engineer Dinis Gomes designed and again Maria Keil designed the station.

Since 2001 the station has direct access to the adjacent El Corte Ingles, the only department store this Spanish chain in southern Portugal.

2006 began the first construction of the extension of the Linha Vermelha of Alameda over Saldanha to São Sebastião, which was gebnommen in 2009. This direct trips to the future de facto central station Oriente and Parque das Naçoes were possible. Since July 2012 there is a direct connection to the airport. The new, also equipped with two side platforms railway station is L-shaped position to the platforms of the Linha Azul and has five new additions.
