Sarepta is a city in Webster Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Covering an area of about four square kilometers of almost 900 people.

Sarepta is part of the socio-economic region Ark- La -Tex, which includes parts of four states Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

Geography

Sarepta is in the northwest of the state of Louisiana, about 15 miles from the northern border of Arkansas and 60 miles from the western border with Texas. West of the city lies a wildlife reserve, located about 40 kilometers from the northern border southwards pulls. North of the city there is a seascape composed of the lakes Lake Murray, Williams Lake and Paper Mill Pond.

Nearby cities include Cullen (5 km north), Cotton Valley (6 km south), Spring Hill (8 km north), Shongaloo (12 km northeast) and Plain Dealing (22 miles west). Nearest large town is about 200,000 inhabitants, is the 40 km south west Shreveport.

History

1868 insisted on the present area only a small church have in the people from the area met weekly for prayer hours. Since the building was left to decay, the church members decided to build a new church. The first unnamed church was completed in 1869. The locals Sarepta Carter donated the new church a Bible in hand, so it was ultimately named after her and was known as New Sarepta Baptist Church.

1879 built another local resident a general store, whose land was known as Old Hickory Tree. The small settlement now consisted of a church, a cemetery, a shop and a few private farms and residential land. Because of its proximity to church, the store soon became known as the store over at Sarepta. The actual history of the church begins in 1884 when a post office was built.

Traffic

In a north-south orientation, the town is crossed by U.S. Highway 371, the Interstate 20 crosses the north, among others, to Magnolia, Prescott and Nashville (all in Arkansas) and in the south and rises behind Coushatta in Interstate 49. In an east-west orientation also the Louisiana Highway 2 runs through the town, which leads from Vivian in the west to the eastern boundary of Louisiana. Both highways intersect in the city center.

Interstate 20 runs about 35 kilometers south of the city.

Demography

The 2000 census showed a population of 925 people, spread over 368 households and 271 families. The population density was about 222 people per square kilometer. 96.7 % of the population were white, 2.1 % black, 1.6% Hispanic or Latino and 0.1 % Indians. 0.9% were from a different ethnicity, 0.3 % had two or more ethnicities. For every 100 females 90 males. The average age was 37 years, the per capita income was almost $ 15,000, which is less than 10 % of the population were below the poverty line.
