Sartène

Sartène ( Corsican Sarte ) is a commune and the capital of Sartenais in Corsica. It has 3374 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and an area of ​​200 km ², making it the largest of the island.

The place is known in Corsica as' the most Corsican of all Corsican towns. " This term goes back to the writer Prosper Mérimée. Sartène is divided into two parts, a top and a lower town. The main square of the city is officially called Place de la Libération - but the locals call it Place Porta. A special spectacle there on Good Friday to see: Here leads the procession of the Catenacciu, the " chained " by the city from the church of Sainte -Marie to the chapel of Saint -Sébastien.
