Saschko Gawriloff

Saschko Gawriloff ( born October 20, 1929 in Leipzig ) is a German violinist and violin teacher.

Life

Saschko Gawriloff received his first violin lessons from his father, who was a violinist in the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. Thereafter, he studied with Hans Help, Walther Davisson, Gustav Havemann and Martin Kovacz, the latter was a student of David Oistrakh and Jenő Hubay. After his training, he won numerous international awards, including the Paganini Competition in Genoa (1959) and the award of the city of Nuremberg. As a leader, he has worked at the Dresden Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Opera Orchestra Frankfurt and Hamburg Symphony.

A professor led him in 1957 to Nuremberg, 1966, he became professor at the Northwest German Music Academy in Detmold and 1969 at the Folkwang School in Essen. From 1963 he participated in the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt as a musician and lecturer. He followed 1982 Max Rostal a professor at the Cologne University of Music, he had this activity held until 1996. Starting in the winter semester 2010 Gawriloff is visiting professor at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.

As a soloist he has performed with many renowned orchestras and conductors such as Georg Solti, Pierre Boulez, Christoph von Dohnányi, Eliahu Inbal, Michael Gielen, Esa -Pekka Salonen, Markus Stenz, Péter Eötvös, Gary Bertini and Alfred Schnittke.

With great attention he played in 1992 with the Ensemble Modern, the world premiere of himself dedicated the Violin Concerto by György Ligeti, a year later the American premiere with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the Finnish conductor and composer Esa- Peka Salonen. In the following ten years he led the work to around seventy.

Saschko Gavrilov plays on a violin by Antonio Stradivari, the Ahna Stradivarius in 1683.
