Walther Davisson

Walther Davisson (* December 15, 1885 in Frankfurt am Main, † 18 July 1973 in Bad Homburg ) was a German violinist and conductor.

Life

Davisson visited the Wöhler Real Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main. After high school he studied from 1900 to 1906 violin with Adolf Rebner at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory. From 1906 to 1913 he was Sekundarius in the quartet.

From 1908 to 1918 he taught violin at the Hoch Conservatory. He then headed a violin class at the Leipzig Conservatory, where he became deputy director in 1922. From 1932 to 1942 he was its rector. In the years 1947 to 1948 he taught at the Academy of Music Hall. From 1950 to 1954 Davisson was Artistic Director of the Frankfurt Academy of Music and the Conservatory. His students included, inter alia, Gerhard Bosse, Saschko Gawriloff and Arnold Matz.

Walther Davisson was also editor of violin literature. He edited, among others, Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin
