Region

Sassandra is one of 58 departments in the Ivory Coast and also the capital of the department of the same name. The city is located in the district of Bas -Sassandra.

Geography

The city Sassandra lies on the Gulf of Guinea in the Bay of Sassandra River.

History

Sassandra was founded by the Portuguese, the first explorer of the Gulf of Guinea, São than Andrea. The colonial ruins can still be seen today. The port was later used by the British and French on timber exports. The town died in the 1960s from downright after the Port of San Pédro was completed.

Today's industry is limited to the fisheries.
