Sävsjö

Sävsjö is a town in the Swedish province of Jönköping County, the historical province of Småland. The place is the main town in the municipality of the same name.

History

The foundation dates back to the year 1864. In the late 19th century railway lines were laid across the country. At the holding stations consequently often created new towns and cities, so also in the case of the village Sävsjö. The inauguration of the local station took place on October 1, 1864, which was looked upon as the real founding date of Sävsjo. The name referred to the train station from the nearby lake Sävsjön. At this time, existed by then merely place a station building with adjacent warehouses and some rail flats. The main reason to create the stop right there, was the connection to the road links between Vetlanda and Vrigstad or Eksjö and Sandsjö, since the paths near the rail link were.

On 1 January 1947 Sävsjö was awarded city rights. Previously, the neighboring community Bringetofta was merged with Sävsjö 1940. 1962, the place Hjärtlanda, 1992 as Skepperstad to Sävsjö was affiliated. With the granting of the town charter Sävsjö became the 126th city in the country.

Attractions
