Scandar Copti

Scandar Copti (* 1975 in Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Israel) is an Israeli filmmaker Arab- Christian origin.

Life

Scandar Copti was born the son of Mary, a director and politician Education in Jaffa, and Ilya, a carpenter, a Christian Arab family in Jaffa, a suburb of Tel Aviv- Jaffa. He received a bachelor's degree from the Technion in mechanical engineering and played in the Technion Theatre under the direction of Ouriel Zohar. Subsequently, he studied film at the University of Tel Aviv and was at the same time by Eran Riklis been assistant director in the drama The Syrian Bride.

After the short film אמת in 2002 (Translation: true / real ) staged with the musician Rabia Bukhari, he turned in 2009 together with Yaron Shani drama Ajami. He not only took over the role of Binj, but also the director, the script, the editing and production of the film. Ajami has been nationally and internationally praised by critics and won film awards. After he won the Israeli Film Award for Best Film Ophir, he was automatically submitted as a contribution for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and was chosen in the end as one of five nominees. Copti commented that it was merely a technical process and it does not feel like he would be chosen by Israel to present the country at the Oscars. This led to greater media protests within Israel.
