Schefflera

Strahlenaralie, here is a variety of Schefflera arboricola with white variegated leaves.

The Schefflera or Strahlenaralien ( Schefflera ) are a genus of flowering plants in the family Araliaceae the ( Araliaceae ). The genus has a pantropical distribution; many species are native to Asia and tropical Australia.

Use

Some species and their varieties are well suited as houseplants and are characterized by robustness and rapid growth, especially if one pours well in sunny locations and the substrate can completely dry out before the next watering. Among them are also the types Schefflera Schefflera arboricola and actinophylla. The vegetative propagation is " in the room" by head cuttings and stem cuttings.

As house plants, Schefflera are mainly used in the early stage of their growth. In nature, however, they develop into full-grown trees. There are also popular ornamental plants for tropical parks and gardens.

Researchers have found that the Strahlenaralien are among the many houseplants, relieve the air in smoking households; This is particularly the case with a lot of kinds of leaf area.

Description

All species are woody plants: trees or large shrubs, some species are climbing plants and a few species are epiphytes. The alternate, stalked leaves are composed palmate. The leaves are entire or serrated. The stipules are fused to the petiole.

Flowers

The inflorescences are different built: racemose, or ährig doldig. The small bracts are hairy. The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are five-to neunzählig. The five sepals usually have a smooth edge. There are five to eleven petals and as many stamens present. Furthermore, a discus is formed, on which one can often detect nectar. Rarely four, usually five to eleven carpels are fused into an ovary. The stamps are fused at the base or free. Are formed stone fruits that are edged in the dried state. The fruits often contain four, usually five to eleven seed.
