Geography and Paul -Ernst- Park

The tubular Schlachtensee is the most southerly lake in the Grunewaldseenkette that counts geologically to Teltow plateau and has emerged as a glacial trough in the Brandenburg state of Weichsel ice age about 15,000 years ago.

With approximately 421,000 m² and a maximum depth of about 8.5 meters, it represents one of the larger lakes of the Berlin urban area; the circumference is 5.5 kilometers. The lake is used intensively for walks and, with its continuous riverside walk to the most popular jogging routes in Berlin. With its clean waters and wooded location Schlachtensee is also a popular bathing area.

Since 1981, approximately three million cubic meters of water from the Great Wannsee in the surface water treatment plant Beelitzhof are almost completely free of phosphate and is then introduced with almost drinking water quality at the southwest end of the Battle Lake each year. The quality of water in the lake has since improved considerably. Increasing use, shore destruction and other phosphate entries (among dog feces, soil erosion, Feeding of waterfowl, stirring up sediment), however, threaten the quality of water.

Directly on the same S-Bahn station Schlachtensee is the " Paul -Ernst Park". An there be imputed memorial stone commemorates the namesake, the writer Paul Ernst ( 1866-1933 ). The public park and recreation complex moves down the slope to the lake and less than a kilometer along the south bank to the distinctive peninsula below the terrace street. Above the bank there is the Marine settlement. In the area of the peninsula the park contains a dense forest, while at the top of the S-Bahn station and flower beds - are created lawns - very busy in the summer. Other lawns are made on the northeastern shore of the lake where the Schlachtensee is connected via a partly underground channel with the Krumme Lanke.

There is a boat rental on the east side of the lake. Anglers will find the Schlachtensee and in the neighboring Krumme Lanke before 18 fish species. The North Shore is designated as a dog exercise area. About the S-Bahn station Schlachtensee lake and residential areas are well connected transport.

History

" Slatsee "

The name Schlachtensee not going on a "battle" back, but on a Slavic term and refers to the Slav time in the Mark Brandenburg. In a document of the influential monastery Lehnin of the Cistercian order in 1242 will be the only mention of a village " Slatdorp " am " Slatsee ", which is very likely later dropped desolate:

"Villa Slauicali, queer Slatdorp Digitur, et Duo bus stagnis Slatse et Tusen "

According to this document, the monastery bought the jointly ruling askanischen Margrave John I and Otto III. Zehlendorf and Slatdorp with two lakes and a forest of 300 marks from. The second lake with the ambiguous name " Tusen " or " Imtzen " designated with some certainty the neighboring Nikolasee, which is connected via the elongated lowland landscape of protected Rehwiese with the Schlachtensee.

Name derivation and fishing lodge

After earlier representations, for example, by Richard George in 1900, to the Slavic slat of slaty ( =, gold 'or' golden ') come and refer to the color of the lake. The name of an expert on the Teltow, Gerhard Schlimpert, however, is more likely to slat from " piles as bank protection " or solt "quagmire, quagmire " from and mentioned the possible meaning "golden" only in passing.

The present settlement Schlachtensee was not until the end of the 19th century. Previously, in 1750 on the banks of a fisherman's cottage has been built, which at the northeast shore gave the name of the restaurant " Old Fisherman's Cottage ". Established in 2005, restored and expanded, with its local school places a popular place to stay. The first mention of the fishing lodge date from the year 1759

"On the so-called Schlachtensee [ ... ] for the edification of a fisherman's cottage and the dabey to lying Ackers "

And from 1767:

" In the heath Teltoischen the Pertinentzien [ di belonging to the country ] to the fishing house at the Schlachtensee prove measured "

Definition of the local situation Schlachtensee

The local situation Schlachtensee divided in turn into the territory Schlachtensee -West, which belongs to the district of Nikolasee and was developed by the same development company as Nikolasee, the homes AG. Schlachtensee -east part of the district of Zehlendorf, and was largely developed by other construction companies. A clear distinction between the two residential areas within which it comprehensive and surrounding districts is difficult.

A useful definition of the local situation Schlachtensee appears possible, however, orient oneself on to the municipal boundaries of the evangelical churches Schlachtensee and Nikolasee (see map opposite ): The western boundary of the local situation Schlachtensee form the streets Spanish Avenue, Wasgenstraße, Kurstraße and Lisbon Avenue; Wannseebahn and Lima Street represent the eastern boundary dar. However, would the students Schlachtensee and the allotment Schlachtensee -south do not come within this definition for spatial location, but the old manor chaff (now Animal Clinic ). It stands to reason to deviate in these cases from the town limits. Some residents of the Wonnegauviertels see themselves as part of the local situation Schlachtensee, although they belong architectural history and community moderately to Nikolasee.

The writer Ludovica Ezekiel (1847-1889) wrote the following lines, entitled " Schlachtensee ":

" The pines tend to be low / blue is quiet and the sea, we listen to the old customer / reversal of joy and woe. Since the Saxons came pulled / Hevelli into the country, and Christian temple where / is where an idol stood. The grim bear of Askanien, / who broke the contact force, who first thought of all / the brands size. And finally fell Contact / defeated and beaten there; it thunders through the pines, / wild howling of the storm in it. The rain whips the waves / the laughing crowd is silent, Am Schlachtensee the spirits / the old contact go. "

The " fierce bear of Askanien " refers here to the founder of the Mark Brandenburg and first Margrave Albert the Bear, the great-grandfather of the said Margrave John I and Otto III.
