Schleicher Condor

The Condor was a glider in timber construction that was built in the versions I to III in the 1930s and as Condor IV 1951-1954. The Condor was designed mainly for the performance gliding, some copies of the Condor IV, however, were also used as a testbed for new developments; For example, flaps were grown and tested by Hanna Reitsch in a copy. This copy is in the possession of the air sports club Wipperfuerth. A Condor IV you can see slide with a little luck on Osnabrück, it is at the airfield of the Osnabrück Association of Aviation in Achmer. Other Condor IV are exhibited in the flight Schleißheim and the German glider museum on the water dome. The versions I to III were single seat, while the Condor IV provides two people. The designer is Heini Dittmar. Condor was produced, among others, the company Alexander Schleicher and Ferdinand Schmetz.

Construction

The Condor is built entirely of wood. It is a high-wing aircraft. The wings are supported in the first three versions of struts, the Condor IV these are lacking. The wings have in hull near a bend upwards. The landing gear consists of all versions of a runner and a discarding wheel for the start and ground transportation.
