Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co

The Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co is a German glider manufacturer based in Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) in the district of Fulda, in Hesse. The company has about 105 employees and produces about 90 to 100 gliders in the year ago. 65% of the aircraft will be exported abroad.

History

Alexander Schleicher founded in 1927, the plant in Poppenhausen. The company had 50 employees in 1936. In 1939 there were already 120 employees. Could be produced end of the war between 1945-1951 no more aircraft. Rudolf Kaiser joined in 1952 as an aircraft designer in the company. 1963 Gerhard Waibel began to develop GfK aircraft. Martin Heide extended further in 1981 as an aircraft designer, the company.

The access road to the site was renamed Alexander Schleicher Road 2003. Gerhard Waibel occurred in the same year after 39 years in retirement.
