Schleicher ASK 16

The Schleicher ASK 16 is a two-seater motor glider in composite construction, in which the two seats are arranged next to each other (side- by-side ).

History

The ASK 16 was designed by Rudolf Kaiser as a competitor to the successful disc - hawks and built from 1970 to 1977 44 times at Alexander Schleicher.

Construction

The ASK 16 is a touring motor glider with retractable spur wheel chassis and optional propeller. The aircraft has unusually high aerodynamic quality of a composite construction; this is achieved by a Sperrholzbeplankung the fuselage spine and a GRP panel of the fuselage front part, which is actually a fabric-covered steel tube structure. The wings and tail are made in wood. Entry is via a walk- stripe on the left wing through an opening to the right plexiglass hood. As a motor Limbach SL 1700 was elected EBI with 67 hp power, at least one conversion to strengthen the L 2000 with 80 hp is documented. The tank has a capacity of 40 liters, the converted copy is 65 l
