Schmidt (lunar crater)

Schmidt is a small impact craters on the lunar front side at the edge of the Sea of ​​Tranquility, south of Knight and west of Sabine. He is bowl-shaped and hardly eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 by the German astronomer Johann Friedrich Julius Schmidt, the German optician Bernhard Schmidt and the Russian astronomer Otto Schmidt Yulievich.
