Geography

The community Schwalbach is around 15 km north- west of Saarbrücken.

Community structure

There are three districts:

  • Elm with blasting, and Derlen Knaus wood
  • Hülzweiler
  • Schwalbach Griesborn.

History

Schwalbach was first mentioned in Mettlach goods role as Swalpach documented. 1840 produced the Schwalbacher paper mill with 3 chests 15000 Ries write a paper 12 pounds, employed 16 male and 33 female workers.

On October 12, 1982, the church name was officially changed from Schwalbach / Saar in Schwalbach.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1974, the formerly independent communities Bous / Saar, Elm / Saar, Ensdorf and Hülzweiler were incorporated.

Spin-offs

On 1 January 1982 Bous / Saar and Ensdorf became independent again.

Coat of arms

Blazon: " Split of blue and gold, topped with a split of silver and red wave band; forward and upward in a silver oak branch (leaf with two acorns ), rear top in red criss-crossing hammer and chisel, the lower front in silver a mill-wheel, rear below in red a cross. "

The coat of arms of the municipality was 1974/75 awarded by the Minister of Interior Affairs of Saarland. It displays icons that represent the history of the individual districts. The colors show the membership of Nassau -Saarbrücken (blue and silver) and the Duchy of Lorraine (gold and red).

The basic structure of the escutcheon ( basic colors, division and wave band ) forms the crest of Schwalbach.

The oak branch was removed from the Hülzweiler local coat of arms and remembers how the name of locality, the history of the district as a forest clearing settlement.

Hammer and chisel remember the mining tradition in Schwalbach and come from the arms of the local part Elm.

Also from Elmer crest comes the water wheel, which refers to the mills that have determined in Elm in earlier times working life.

The cross refers to the influence of the abbeys and Wadgassen Fraulautern.

Culture and sights

The Volksbühne Hülzweiler recorded eV, in addition to regular theater performances, the outdoor theater Hülzweiler, one of the largest open-air theaters in southwest Germany. Since 1999, the blacksmith and locksmith Schwalbach Museum is housed in the Grade II listed former compressor house.

  • The SSG Black Wood Griesborn provides, among others, the best Saarland men's team in the Regionalliga West.
  • The TV Hülzweiler presented, among others, the best Saarland women's team in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Schwalbach lies in the border region Germany / France / Luxembourg. Close economic links with neighboring countries characterize this region as well as the movement of people and goods.
