Scinax aromothyella

Scinax aromothyella is a species of the subfamily Froschlurch Hylinae within the family of tree frogs. Within the genus Scinax the type belongs to Faivovich et al. (2005 ) on the Scinax Catharinae clade.

Dissemination

This species was known only from three localities of the Argentine province of Misiones and one locality from the Uruguayan department of Treinta y Tres to 2005. Prisoners et al. (2005) extended the known distribution to about 750 km south to central eastern Uruguay and Borteiro et al. (2007) to the south by another 150 km to the southeast of Uruguay. You may come Scinax aromothyella also present in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul and neighboring Paraguay.

Description

Faivovich (2005) are for males ( n = 28) snout-vent lengths of 20.3 to 24.8 mm and for females (n = 2) from 29.8 to 31.8 mm at. Characteristic of Scinax aromothyella is the dark yellow color on the inner sides of the upper and lower leg, robust, but not hypertrophic forelimbs, and the lack of a strong glandular spot in the inguinal region. From other representatives of Scinax Catharinae clade, the species differs mainly by slightly larger forelegs and differences in the vocal sac in males. This is outwardly somewhat bloated. The species is closely related with berthae Scinax and therefore to distinguish the most difficult of this sympatric articulated toes tree frog. Scinax aromothyella has compared to Scinax berthae robust forelimbs and less pronounced webbing between the toes. In addition, the males of Scinax aromothyella slightly larger ( average 22.7 compared to 20.5 mm) and the few ( n = 2) are well-known female is much larger ( 29.8 and 31.8 compared to an average of 24.5 mm ). A photo of a male is at Borteiro et al. (2007: 98) to find.

Habitat and Ecology

Normally Scinax aromothyella occurs in the open country, where he is particularly found during or shortly after heavy rainfall from December to February are permanent or semi- permanent water bodies. Only two individuals have been found along a mountain creek. Males call from vegetation usually just above the water surface. The species has a larval development.

Endangering

The IUCN lists Scinax aromothyella as Data Deficient because the species was described only recently and little is known about the distribution and ecological requirements. The species occurs in at least one protected area before ( Parque Provincial Pinalito ).
