Scott O'Dell

Scott O'Dell (* May 23, 1898 in Los Angeles, † 16 October 1989 ) was an American writer.

Work

O'Dell wrote many novels for young people, which often deal with the North American Indians, and a history of California.

Island of the Blue Dolphins was his first book for teens, and in 1963 awarded the German Youth Literature Award and the Newbery Medal. The book The Black Pearl was even filmed. Other books are: Go home, Navaho girl and the abandoned boat at the beach. Scott O'Dell won the 1972 Hans Christian Andersen Award for his oeuvre.
