Scyphanthus Stenocarpus

Scyphanthus is a plant genus of the family of flowers nettle plants ( Loasaceae ). It contains one or two kinds, which are endemic in Chile.

Description

It is climbing, annual herbaceous plants. Nettle hair missing, the root system is fibrous. The leaves are opposite, pinnate, the leaf blades broadly ovate and double.

The inflorescences are terminal, highly asymmetric like Asia. Before the individual flowers are two frondose bracteoles.

The petals are yellow. The outer staminodes are fused to form a nectar vacancy shed sheet ( nectar scale), there are three flag -shaped, white, red and yellow extensions on the outer side.

The narrow cylindrical ovary is inferior and opens on the basis of longitudinal columns, the seeds are square.

Dissemination

Scyphanthus found only in Chile in Mediterranean scrubland.

System

Was first described in 1828 by David Scyphanthus Don. The genus is classified in the subfamily Loasoideae, Tribe Loaseae, it is closely related to the genus Caiophora and the section of the genus Pinnatae Loasa. It is unclear whether it includes one or two ways:

  • Scyphanthus Stenocarpus Urb. & Gilg
  • Scyphanthus elegans D. Don.
