Sea Scout

Sea Scouts (also Sea Scouts ) are a special branch of the Scout Movement. The Sea Scouts are different from the normal "country" Scouts by experience that they are mainly in the activities and on the water.

Naturally, you will find the most Sea Scout in states with direct access to the sea and a long coastline. But even in landlocked countries, there are individual groups. In countries with a larger number of Sea Scout special regattas are organized exclusively for Sea Scout.

In most European countries there is Sea Scouting, but in many different forms. In some frets Sea Scouting is a standalone program, in others it is part of the normal Scouting.

The European Scout Region has conducted a survey on the Seepfadfindertum in Europe, which shows that there are about 95 000 Sea Scouts in 28 countries in groups ranging in size 16-167 people. Most Sea Scouts are in the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, the UK and Sweden.

Unlike many non-European organizations, the Sea Scouts work in German-speaking co-educational.

History

The idea of ​​Seepfadfindertums was developed by the founder of Scouting, Robert Baden -Powell shortly after the formation of the Scout Movement. In practical implementation, he was supported by his brother Warington Baden- Powell, who was himself a keen sailor and worked as a lawyer for the British Admiralty. Warington Baden -Powell wrote for the handbook Sea Scouting and Seamanship for Boys, which was released in July 1912.

The first Seepfadfinderlager was conducted in the summer of 1908. In 1912 the working branch was officially launched in the UK Scout Association, after numerous Sea Scout had been founded spontaneously by young people. In the following years, other groups on all continents, who joined the national Scout associations.

Sea Scouts in Germany

Unlike other countries, there are few Sea Scouts in Germany. The German member organizations of World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are just two Seepfadfinderstämme in the German Scout Association of Saint George is known, one group is not a separate Seepfadfinderstamm, but merely a division of the tribe. Sea Scouting in Austria

Sea Scouts in Switzerland

The Seepfadfinderabteilung Zurich in Zurich -Wollishofen is the first Scout group in Switzerland, mainly at their events, performs in and on the water. It has its own rowing and sailing vessels, which are used by the members on Lake Zurich.

Eurosea conferences

Eurosea is the seminar for Sea Scouts and Seepfadfinderinnen that organizes the " European Region of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts " ( European Scout Region) since 1985.

Eurosea conferences aimed at:

  • Development of the educational dimension of Scouting - the youth program approach;
  • Extension of nautical and maritime traditions as a source of ideas, activities, projects;

Participation is open to persons who are responsible national or regional groups for Sea Scouting / Guiding and are interested in developing water- based programs. Also, representatives may participate by compounds that are interested in introducing Sea Scouting.
