Seán Gibbons

Seán Francis Gibbons ( * May 31, 1883, † April 19, 1952 ) was an Irish politician.

Life and career

Gibbons was elected in 1923 Eireann to Cumann na nGaedheal in the constituency Carlow Kilkenny in the 4th Dáil. He resigned from his position as a Teachta Dala, however, already on October 30, 1924 down and joined the party at Farmers. In the by-election for the renewal of his vacant seat in the Dáil Thomas Bolger was elected.

In 1932 he was elected for Fianna Fáil in the constituency of Carlow - Kilkenny in the 7th. In 1933 his re-election. In the elections of 1937 he failed to defend once more from his position. Gibbons has now Senator in Seanad Éireann, where he served from 1938 to 1944. During this time he was 1938-1943 President of the Senate ( Cathaoirleach ). After 1944 he lost his seat in the 4th Seanad Éireann, succeeded him in 1948 to be re-elected to Seanad Éireann on the 6th. In the elections of 1951 he no longer went to.

The politician James Gibbons is his nephew.
