Sebastian Manz

Sebastian Manz ( born 1986 in Hanover) is a German clarinetist.

Life and work

Manz was born as the son of pianist Wolfgang Manz and Julia Goldstein, the daughter of the Russian violinist Boris Goldstein. As a six year old, he was admitted to the Hannover Boys Choir and came together with John Eliot Gardiner and Leonard Slatkin. He received his first clarinet lessons with seven Wilfried Berk, and the age of eleven he was accepted as a student at the Music Academy in Lübeck.

In September 2008, Manz ended his competition performances. At the International ARD Music Competition in Munich, he won the first prize and the audience prize and special prizes. A few months earlier he had with his piano partner Martin Klett also won the German Music Competition as " Duo Riul ". For the student of Sabine Meyer and Rainer Wehle followed immediately thereafter appearances with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with television recording, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Collegium Musicum Basel. The ECHO Klassik in the category "Chamber Music Recording of the Year " for his quintets by Mozart and Beethoven, along with Ramón Ortega Quero, Marc Trénel, David Alonso and Herbert Schuch received Sebastian Manz in 2012. A year earlier he had for his performance of the Clarinet Concerto Mozart also "Young Artist of the Year" received the ECHO Klassik in the category.

His first tour as a soloist took Sebastian Manz age of 13 with the Orchestra of Music School Hannover to Poland, in October 2000 the orchestra in France was underway. He also has performed among others at the EXPO 2000 and a soloist with the Magdeburg Philharmonic, the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. 2006 Sebastian Manz was the festival " Schubertiade " invited to Japan, where he performed both chamber musician and soloist. Since 2010, Sebastian Manz has been principal clarinetist of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR.

In the field of chamber music he performs as "Duo Riul " as well as in the clarinet formation "Trio Devinne " on. Own arrangements of jazz and entertainment pieces realized the clarinetist with pianist Christian Ruvolo.
